Scott Sumner referred to fruit-named countries a lot in connection with the Trump presidency.
It sounds from the way you phrase it that it is going after former presidents that makes them long and yellow. I would have thought that the kind of country that elects the kind of person who commits crimes/corruption for their personal benefit is what makes smoothie ingredients out of a nation.
Kinda, sorta. It sounds like they're going after Trump for some stuff that he did long before he was president.
And while I'm sure his administration was corrupt, it's hard for me to see how it was any more corrupt than previous (or post!) admins.
All of this is to say that the Trump indictment thing is *not* the sort of thing that is indicative of a banana republic. A banana republic would go after Trump (or whoever) for stuff they previously did *in office* even as the current administration does the same thing.
What we have here is just...weird. But it's not banana republic-type stuff.
